Today is Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s 48th birthday in Pakistan, where he is well-known (Friday).Khan, also known as “the king of melodious voice,” was raised in Faisalabad by a Punjabi family of Qawwals and classical singers.
He is the son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, the grandson of Fateh Ali Khan, and the nephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a celebrated singer of Qawwali. Since he was a small child, he has taken a strong interest in music, and at various occasions, he has been seen singing along with his father and uncle.
Since his first public performance at the age of nine, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who has provided the voice for countless popular Bollywood songs, has gone on to steal hearts with his soulful singing.
With more than 50 albums to his name, he also continues to make as much of a contribution to Pakistan’s music business as he can.
He received a lifetime achievement award and an honorary membership from the Arts Council Karachi last year.
The singing maestro has millions of YouTube subscribers, and last year, his video “Zaroori Tha” received an astounding 1 billion views.
