JERUSALEM: Israeli police detained a suspect on Sunday in connection with an early-morning shooting rampage that injured eight people, including a pregnant woman and several US citizens, on a bus just outside Jerusalem’s Old City.
Police spokesman Kan Eli Levy declared on Israeli public radio following the violent attack close to the Western Wall, the holiest site of prayer for Jews, that “the terrorist is in our hands.”
The US embassy said that several of the injured were Americans. We are astonished and grieved by the terrorist incident, the embassy said, declining to provide any details out of respect for privacy.
At least 49 Palestinians, including a number of children, were killed in the recent wave of violence, which came to a stop last Sunday when Egypt mediated a ceasefire.
