JERUSALEM :Israeli security officers shot dead a Palestinian man they said tried to knife an officer during a home raid in east Jerusalem looking for weapons early Monday.According to authorities, the man, identified as Mohammed al-Shaham, 21, was “neutralised” and died in an Israeli military hospital.
Ibrahim al-Shaham, the man’s father, said his son was shot in the head at close range and was bleeding for 40 minutes.Police knocked on their house at 3:30 a.m., according to al-Shaham, and “we didn’t make it to the door, Mohammed got there first, and the door exploded.
“They started shooting inside the house, and the first shot hit Mohammed in the head,” he added, adding that the officers left him bleeding before detaining and transporting him.The Jerusalem Border Police conducted the raid in order to locate weapons in the town of Kafr Aqab, which is part of Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem but lies on the West Bank side of the security barrier.
