In response to criticism for missing a critical catch in the tense Asia Cup 2022 match between India and Pakistan, former India captain Virat Kohli defended teammate Arshdeep Singh.
The balance was fluctuating up to the final few overs, but Pakistan’s advantage shifted after the young pacer missed an essentially routine catch by batter Asif Ali.
Ali struck, and the Men in Green went on to win the match and exact revenge on Pakistan for their previous five-wicket loss in the same event. This opportunity provided Pakistan with a significant reprieve. In a post-game press conference, Virat Kohli defended the player, saying that “mistakes can happen.”
“A mistake can be made by anyone. A tight scenario existed. Because of the intense atmosphere, mistakes did occur “the former Indian captain informed reporters.
“I vividly remember the awful shot I took against Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi in my first Champions Trophy match. I couldn’t sleep and was up till five in the morning staring at the ceiling; nonetheless, these things are normal, “explained Kohli.
The former captain credited coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharman for fostering a positive team environment where more experienced players could mentor newcomers.
