Ireland wins the fifth game easily to win the T20 series 3-2

Ireland defeated Afghanistan 3-2 in the five-game Twenty20 international series with a close victory in the last and fifth rain-delayed match on Wednesday at Stormon.

After Ireland was given a revised target of 56 in seven overs, George Dockrell scored the winning run with two balls remaining, giving the hosts a seven-wicket victory and a 3-2 advantage in the five-match series.

After home captain Andy Balbirnie won the toss, Ireland paceman Mark Adair dismissed openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz in his first over.Additionally, Adair had 3-16 statistics after dismissing Ibrahim Zadran, and Afghanistan had scored 26-3 after four overs.

However, Usman Ghani led an Afghan counterattack after Josh Little had the captain Mohammad Nabi and wicketkeeper Najibullah Zadran caught behind by Lorcan Tucker off successive deliveries.

The rain, however, cut short Ghani’s batting after he had struck an unbeaten 44 off just 40 balls, including three fours and two sixes, leaving Afghanistan 95-5 after 15 overs.
