The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued warnings and instructions to TV networks on Tuesday to stop propagating false information and propaganda against government institutions. The regulatory authority claims that the misinformation and deception conveyed by news anchors, programme guests, and analysts put doubt on the institutions.

According to a statement made by PEMRA, “airing of such content is in contravention of the directions issued by the authority, regulations of PEMRA Electronic Media (Programs and Advertisements) Code of Conduct 2015, and the standards established by the Superior Courts.

“The statement read, “All satellite TV channel licensees are hereby directed to comply strictly with the relevant provisions of PEMRA laws and to adhere to the principles set forth in the constitution as well as the rulings of the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Criminal Original No. 270/2019 and Suo Moto Case No. 28 of 2018, respectively.
