PTI senior leader Shahbaz Gill’s attorney informed the district and sessions court in Islamabad when it started hearing Gill’s bail request in a sedition case on Monday that Gill is ready to retract his controversial statements.Gill was detained near the capital’s Banigala Chowk on August 9, a day after making contentious comments on a private TV programme.
He was detained on suspicion of sedition and inciting members of state institutions to oppose the Pakistan Army.As instructed by the judge at the previous hearing of his bail application, the Islamabad Capital City Police opened the hearing by presenting the case file in court. This morning, the hearing regarding the bail plea was resumed by additional District and Sessions judge Zafar Iqbal.
Burhan Moazzam, the attorney for Gill, requested access to the case files that inspector Arshad had presented to the court during the hearing. The inspector was ordered by the court to show the attorney the record. Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the prosecutor, complained that they were unable to display the case’s supplemental challan.
The hearing was shortly adjourned by the court afterwards. When the hearing resumed, Gill’s attorney argued that the police had not produced the Section 161 statement. The judge then ordered the police to give Gill’s initial statement to the defence attorney. The debates have already begun.
