ISLAMABAD: On Monday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan was criticised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari for making the nomination of the army chief problematic and making statements critical of the military. The coalition government is delaying the polls, according to the PTI chairman, because they intended to “appoint an army commander of their own choice,” he stated in a speech at a jalsa in Faisalabad on Sunday.
In a statement posted to Twitter, PM Shehbaz chastised Imran for disparaging government organisations and claimed that the PTI chairman’s “despicable statements” were getting worse every day.The prime minister said, “He is now engaging in outright mudslinging and venomous claims against [the] armed forces and its leadership. The PTI chairman’s “nefarious objective is plainly to disrupt and undermine Pakistan,” according to PM Shehbaz.
Regarding Khan’s statement from yesterday, the PPP co-chairman stated that the government would not permit him to make the institutions and generals “controversial”.Every jawan, from soldier to general, is brave and a patriot, he continued.A strong and patriotic army leader who could hold Zardari and previous prime minister Nawaz Sharif accountable for the stolen money they had stashed overseas, according to the PTI chairman, is something they “fear.”
Speaking before a crowd, he declared that a new army head will be chosen in November of this year, and that Zaradri and Nawaz would work together to choose a favourite [general] for the position.
