Concerned about the Shehbaz government's intention to hike gasoline prices, Zardari

Asif Ali Zardari, a former president and PPP leader, voiced “alarm” on Tuesday Concerned about the federal government’s plan to raise the price of petroleum products by Rs6.72 for the upcoming two weeks, stating that “consultation on such choices” was crucial.

He was cited as adding, “Pakistan People’s Party is a part of the government and supports it, and there must be consultation when it comes to such issues,” in a tweet from the party.
Zardari declared that the alleviation of the populace was “our first priority” and that the PPP or other coalition parties had joined the administration.

“The prime minister has our support. The PPP chairman said, “I’ll meet him shortly and chat to him about the [government’s] economic team.

Concerned the former president’s remarks, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz also voiced her opposition to the increase in gas prices online.

She claimed that Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the party, had vehemently opposed the move to hike the price of gasoline. She tweeted that Nawaz had also left the meeting and that “he even remarked that he couldn’t burden the people further and that he was not in favour of the decision.”In contrast, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail defended himself by claiming in a series of tweets earlier today that the government had not added additional taxes on petroleum goods and that the adjustments applied to purchases made by the Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

According to him, the Oil / Gas Research Authority (Ogra) takes the average Platt prices, multiplies them by the exchange rate, and then adds freight and the premium that PSO paid on top of those prices. The government increased the cost of gasoline on Monday while lowering the cost of high-speed diesel (HSD) and gasoline for the following two weeks.
