7 people are killed by a roadside bomb in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan

MAZAR-I-SHARIF: An onboard roadside bomb in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of seven petroleum business personnel, according to a spokesman for the provincial police.

“By the side of the road, a cart had the explosive. It went off as the bus pulled up “said Asif Waziri, a police officer of Mazar-i-Balkh Sharif’s police department.

Although the Taliban assert that they have increased security throughout the country since seizing control in August of last year, there have been numerous bombings and attacks, many of which have been blamed on the regional affiliate of the Islamic State group.

A blast at a madrassa in Aybak, southeast of Mazar-i-Sharif, earlier this month resulted in at least 19 fatalities and 24 injuries. As per Waziri, the explosion on Tuesday occurred about 7:00 am (0230 GMT) in the city’s Sayed Abad Square.

Six persons, he claimed, had been hurt in the explosion. There has been no claim of responsibility, and more information was not immediately available.
