Shahbaz Gill asks the IHC for bail in a case involving sedition

Shahbaz Gill, a senior PTI politician, approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday after unsuccessfully attempting to obtain bail from a lower court in a sedition case brought against him.Gill, the chief of staff for PTI Chairman Imran Khan, has been detained since last month when he was taken into custody following the filing of a treason charge against him for allegedly inciting rebellion within the Pakistan Army through his comments during a private TV channel show.

The politician claims that he was detained by Kohsar police on August 9 and has named the Kohsar Police Station SHO, City Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza, and others as parties in the plea.He asked the court to grant him bail, claiming that leading medical professionals from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) had examined him on August 17 and discovered “signs of physical torture.”

The court scheduled the hearing for September 5th.The PTI has repeatedly demanded the party leader’s release on bail, claiming that while in police prison, he is being subjected to humiliation, torture, and sexual abuse.Tuesday, an Islamabad court dismissed Gill’s bail request in the sedition case brought against him. After listening to extensive arguments from both parties, the district and sessions court rendered a reserved verdict.
