Players prioritising T20 leagues is hardly a surprise

Players prioritising T20 leagues is hardly a surprise

NEW DELHI : Trent Boult’s decision to leave New Zealand Cricket is just another indicator of a revolution sweeping through the game, one that is occurring at the rapid speed of a Twenty20 innings rather than the languid tempo of a Test match.

Boult, who was a key player of the teams that won the inaugural World Test Championship and finished runners-up in three World Cups, will now play a “much reduced role” for the Black Caps.

The left-arm quick requested his contract be terminated so he could spend more time with his young family, but according to a New Zealand Cricket (NZC) statement, the 33-year-old also wanted to be available for “domestic leagues.”

A congested international calendar in three formats of the game, along with the added strain of playing in biosecure bubbles during the Covid-19 outbreak, has pushed players like Boult to the brink of exhaustion.
