KARACHI: At the renowned city destination Do Darya, a part of an “abandoned” restaurant collapsed and sank into the water on Monday after torrential rains pounded the area.
The official statement was sent in response to social media images depicting the collapse of a deck near the water as people appeared to attempt to save those who had fallen.
In contrast, the police were told that the eatery had been “abandoned” for the previous 12 years, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Asad Raza.
The food strip beside the water is home to a number of eateries. The news comes after the city was battered by torrential storms that severely damaged the infrastructure and claimed hundreds of lives.
