Elon Musk published a clarification beneath the same tweet stating that “it was a joke,” after his statement on Wednesday claiming he was buying English soccer club Manchester United Plc (MANU.N) created a stir online.
“No, this is a continuing Twitter joke. I’m not purchasing any sports clubs, Musk responded in response to Tesla Owners Silicon Valley’s inquiry about Musk’s sincerity.”Musk is renowned for his eccentricity and humorous tweets.
Whether he intended to pursue a proposal to acquire Manchester United, one of the most recognisable names in soccer but currently in crisis on the field amid irate fan calls, was not immediately obvious.
Musk tweeted, “I’m buying Manchester United ur (sic) welcome.” The team’s primary Twitter account has more than 32 million followers, and Musk’s tweet received 220,000 “likes” in just two hours. The team is situated in northern England.
