COLOMBO: Following his arrest in Sydney for an alleged sexual assault, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Monday that Danushka Gunathilaka has been suspended from all forms of cricket and will not be considered for any selections.
The 31-year-old was accused of sexual assault while in Australia to compete in the T20 World Cup, and a Sydney court on Monday refused to grant him bail.The executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made the decision to immediately suspend national player Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket and to stop considering him for any selections, according to a statement from the SLC.
SLC declared that it would assist with Australian law police and had a “zero tolerance” policy for any such behaviour. SLC announced on Sunday that it will investigate the situation.With a hamstring injury, Gunathilaka was unable to continue in the T20 World Cup after playing against Namibia in the first round.
When Sri Lanka lost to England on Saturday in their final World Cup match, they were eliminated at the group stage.
