Mirpur Khas (Kashif Shamim Siddiqui): The Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners – Legal Aid Office (CWP-LAO) and Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) continue to work in close coordination to advocate forprisoners’ rights. Recently, a delegation led by Chairperson SHRCIqbal Ahmed Detho paid a visit to Central Prison Mirpur Khas. The visit was accompanied by the Committee’slawyers:Toseef Ahmed Chandio, Danish Ahmed Soomro, and Munawar Chandio.

This joint effort yielded remarkable outcomes, including the acquisition of ‘Vakalatanamas’ and legal advice to inmates. The visit also shed light on the concerning issue ofvisitation rights for prisoners transferred from Larkana. In this regard, Detho asked jail authorities about the list of inmates who have been transferred from Larkana prison to Mirpur Khas. He noticed that the visitation rights of prisoners’ families are being affected – as district Larkana is away from Mirpur Khas.

At the end of the visit, the CWP and SHRC expressed their views and said that “with our continued collaboration, we are determined to ensure that every prisoner’s human rights are protected and upheld. Together, we stand for a fair andcompassionate justice system”.
