Twitter is under fire from Musk for allegedly engaging in fraud

SAN FRANCISCO: As their legal battle intensifies, Elon Musk has accused Twitter of deceiving him by misrepresenting important components of its business before he agreed to a $44 billion takeover.

The Tesla CEO filed the claim late on Thursday in an effort to defend himself against Twitter’s lawsuit that aims to compel him to complete the deal, which he has attempted to terminate.

Musk contended in a document submitted to a Delaware court that the real number of users who see advertising on the platform is around 65 million lower than the company’s estimate of 238 million.

The accusation stated that “Twitter’s disclosures have gradually come undone, with Twitter hastily locking the gates on information in a desperate attempt to prevent the Musk Parties from revealing its fraud.”

Musk is demanding that the judge remove him from the contract and force Twitter to pay him damages before the trial, which is set to start on October 17.
