President Alvi criticises conjecture regarding his absence from the funeral of martyrs as "unnecessary controversy"

ISLAMABAD: After it was suggested that the top official skipped the funeral of the shuhda, who chose death in the Balochistan helicopter crash, because of the ongoing hate campaign by social media trolls that constituted a threat, President Arif Alvi referred to the reports as “unnecessary controversy.”

The president asked for clarification in a thread on his personal social media page. The “President of Pakistan” account did not retweet it until after this report was filed. A day after the martyrs were buried with full military honours, the president stated that there was “unnecessary controversy” surrounding the reason why he had not attended the recent janaza of the shaheeds.

The president stated that he is using the occasion to strongly denounce the vile tweets made by those who “neither understand our culture [nor] our religion.”Alvi emphasized that he has contacted hundreds of families, gone to funerals with them, and paid them visits to express his sympathies, emphasizing that he does not avoid them at such times.
