Massive climate anomaly in Pakistan causes devastation and 830 deaths

Senator Sherry Rehman, the federal minister for climate change, has asked for immediate humanitarian assistance and rescue efforts to help the people of Pakistan who have been affected by the rain and floods recover.

Rehman stated during a briefing on the present flood emergency to reevaluate the damage caused by the periodic flash flooding in afflicted areas that up to 830 people have been killed, 1,348 injured, and hundreds have been left homeless as torrential rains pummelled the country.

The monsoon system has migrated from Balochistan to Sindh, where 30 districts are under water. According to her, rainfall in Sindh and Balochistan during the current monsoon was respectively 395% and 379% over average. It is a climate catastrophe of epic proportions, leaving behind a humanitarian crisis that may equal the scope of the major flood that was seen in 2010.

Sindh, the present epicentre of the disaster, is currently under water on both sides of the Indus. South Punjab is currently seeing the same kind of speed and velocity of water as the 30 districts of Sindh, and even Balochistan, where the shelter is critically impacted. Livestock and crops have been harmed, and people are lost.
