Journalist Anas Mallick declares, "I am back," following a brief absence in Kabul

After going missing for nearly 12 hours in the capital of war-torn Afghanistan, Kabul, Pakistani journalist Anas Mallick announced on Friday that he is back. Mansoor Ahmad Khan, the Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan, reaffirmed the journalist’s safety.

Journalists and activists voiced worry after Mallick vanished and urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and other leaders to make sure he was found.

I just had a quick phone conversation with Pakistani journalist Anas Mallick on reports against him. He is secure and in Kabul. Anas will continue to hear from the Embassy, the envoy announced on Twitter.

He was in Afghanistan to chronicle the Taliban takeover’s first anniversary. On August 3, the journalist arrived in Kabul. After writing a narrative about the “safehouse” where Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was murdered by a drone strike, Mallick vanished on Thursday.
