Army leader contacts Saudi and UAE authorities to discuss IMF scheme

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the chief of the army staff, has spoken with Saudi Arabia’s and the United Arab Emirates leaders. According to reports, the loan package from the International Monetary Fund was discussed, and Pakistan is likely to see a change for the better.

In order to reduce the possibility of a debt default, Gen. Bajwa pleaded with the United States to assist Islamabad in obtaining an early distribution of $1.2 billion in funds under the IMF plan.

On the condition of anonymity, because they were not authorized to comment publicly, officials from the US and Pakistan told the publication’s correspondent Wajahat S Khan that the army commander called the US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.

According to the sources, Gen. Bajwa asked the White House and the Treasury Department to pressure the lender to speed up the bailout procedure and release right away the roughly $1.2 billion Pakistan anticipates receiving under the reopened loan programme.
