As soon as word spread that a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team was prepared to arrest him in connection with a “assets beyond means” investigation, Sardar Usman Buzdar, the former chief minister of Punjab, was able to secure a pre-arrest release.Charges of abuse of power are also brought against Buzdar.
An accountability court ordered the PTI leader to participate in the inquiry despite preventing NAB from detaining Buzdar by giving him anticipatory bail.Buzdar already expressed a desire to be released on bond through his attorney, claiming that he was the target of a political witch hunt.Due to the political nature of NAB’s case, Buzdar’s attorney was concerned that his client might be arrested.
The court granted Buzdar bail and ordered him to post Rs 500,000 as surety bonds in exchange for a response from NAB.On November 4, the Lahore High Court (LHC) commanded NAB to refrain from using coercive measures against Buzdar and former federal minister Moonis Elahi in connection with inquiries into their conduct.
