Imran Khan anticipates general election in either March or April 2023

Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated on Saturday that the nation’s general election would take place in March or April 2023.

Since his resignation by a vote of no-confidence in April of last year, the former prime minister has been advocating for early elections in the nation. For this reason, he has also said that the assembly of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his party is in power, will be dissolved. The ruling PDM has not changed its stance, meanwhile, that elections would be held on schedule.

At his Zaman Park mansion in Lahore, Mr. Khan told top media that Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi was on his side and that he still had faith in him. He attacked the PPP and the PML-N, saying that all they were good for was exchanging legislators. He claimed that new elections were necessary for political and economic stability and added that he would not make any concessions in exchange for winning power.

Khan continued to criticise retired Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, the previous commander of the army. Gen. Bajwa “does not want accountability in the country,” he claimed, adding that Mr. Bajwa had struck a pact with PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. I learned this in the last year of my government. Additionally, he said that the Establishment “dominated” the Pakistani Election Commission.

The PTI leader announced that the legislators from his party would visit the National Assembly on Monday to confirm their resignations.
