Karachi (Kashif Shamim Siddiqui): In a proactive response to alarming reports regarding 385 juvenile offenders held in detention across Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, the Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister, Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar, issued a directive on Monday. He has taken decisive steps to ensure that these young individuals receive the necessary legal support and assistance they require.

The reports indicate that among the 385 juvenile offenders, there are 168 individuals aged 17, 106 aged 16, 100 aged 18, eight aged 15, two aged 14, and one aged 13. Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Justice Maqbool Baqar has ordered the provincial law department to promptly provide free legal aid to these young inmates, ensuring they have access to proper legal representation.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Baqar has underscored the importance of regular updates on the progress of this initiative. The law department has been directed to submit daily compliance reports, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.

Justice Maqbool Baqar’s swift response to the pressing issue of juvenile offenders in Sindh’s correctional facilities demonstrates his commitment to upholding the rights and welfare of the youth in the region.
