As Iran eases demands, the 2015 nuclear agreement could be revived

WASHINGTON: The United States indicated that Iran is willing to relax major demands that had prevented the resuscitation of the 2015 nuclear deal, in an effort to restore the agreement. After a year and a half of indirect diplomacy that only a few weeks ago appeared to be crumbling, the US is soon poised to respond to Iran via European Union mediators.

According to US sources, Iran relaxed its demands on a major sticking point — that Washington remove its potent Revolutionary Guards off a terrorist blacklist — and then dropped efforts to obstruct some UN nuclear inspections.”There are still gaps, but should we come to an agreement, we should go back to the pact.

Biden has advocated for going back to the agreement that former President Donald Trump scorned, and Iran has pushed hard during talks in Vienna. The US official emphasised that Tehran ultimately “made compromises on crucial topics,” despite Iran also claiming diplomatic victories.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is looking into three unreported nuclear facilities because it has concerns about nuclear activities that has since halted at those locations. Iran has attempted to halt the investigation.Iran deactivated many IAEA cameras in June after the UN agency’s board reprimanded Tehran for failing to sufficiently explain earlier findings of uranium.
