After discussions in Ukraine, Erdogan issues a 'another Chernobyl' warning

LVIV: On Thursday, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres encouraged Russia and Ukraine to keep the success of a deal that was negotiated by the organisation. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the leader of Turkey, warned that a nuclear war with Ukraine was imminent during his first face-to-face conversations with President Volodymyr Zelensky since the invasion began.

“We’re concerned. During a news conference in the eastern city of Lviv , Erdogan declared, “We don’t want another Chernobyl. Ankara is a solid ally.We are on the side of our Ukrainian allies while working to find a solution, Erdogan stated.

Adding that the plant needed to be demilitarised and that he was “gravely concerned” about the situation there, Guterres said: “We must tell it like it is – any potential harm to Zaporizhzhia is suicide.”

Putin and Erdogan met less than two weeks ago at the Black Sea resort of Sochi despite Erdogan’s significant geopolitical conflicts with the Kremlin and their tight professional ties.
